The mobility transition is no longer simply a matter of infrastructure, technology or policy measures. Equally crucial is how change is communicated: how can deeply ingrained notions about mobility be challenged? How can people be won over to new solutions? And which communication approaches foster understanding, dialogue and motivation rather than resistance?
To mark the conclusion of the ‘Communication for Sustainable Mobility’ project, which iRights.Lab carried out in collaboration with the Öko-Institut on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency, a lunchtime talk will be held to address these questions.
As part of the project, new communication formats were developed in collaboration with stakeholders from government, academia, civil society and the field, designed to make complex mobility issues understandable, accessible and open to discussion. These include, amongst others , a mobility bingo game, a mobility quartet game and mobility clips. They address common assumptions and myths surrounding mobility, convey facts in a playful way and encourage discussion about sustainable mobility.
At the lunchtime talk, we will present the formats developed and key findings from the project. We will then discuss these together with:
- Jutta Deffner (Head of the Sustainable Society Research Area – specialising in mobility research at the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE))
- Eva Weber (Communications consultant at Lots* Gesellschaft für verändernde Kommunikation mbh)
- Isabell Eberlein (Managing Director of Velokonzept GmbH)
Together, we want to look ahead and discuss how communication regarding the transport transition can be made effective and sustainable in the future.
