Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV)

Digital twins are virtual, dynamic representations of physical objects, processes or systems and offer enormous potential for more efficient and resource-saving planning, operation and subsequent utilisation of infrastructures. In the project “Digital Twins in Infrastructure, Construction and Housing – from Theory and Concept to Practice”, we are collating specialist and user knowledge on digital twins in order to analyse the status quo of their implementation, conceptual approaches and their potential benefits in Germany. Existing use cases in municipalities and various infrastructure areas are analysed with regard to challenges and tried-and-tested solutions. We prepare the collected findings in a target group-oriented and practice-orientated manner in a variety of formats – from comprehensive studies and basic knowledge, user-oriented practical guidelines with suggestions for action to briefings and disseminate them widely with specialist events. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV).
