Numerous guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) have been developed worldwide in recent years. Our thematic study commissioned by Fraunhofer Fokus shows the extent to which these guidelines are already being taken into account in the use of AI in public administration in Germany. We present case studies from all areas of public service provision at the federal, state and municipal levels and evaluate them on the basis of nine criteria that define the "AI landscape" of German public administration.
